ProfMedia goes tapeless with SGT

Thursday, 02 April 2009
Russian media group ProfMedia is using SGT's Veda software suite components for an entirely IP-based tapeless workflow solution.

The combined workflow integrates eleven channels run by four independent television broadcasters. This ambitious project was carried out by SGT in cooperation with its systems integration partner Qualitron, who was in charge of integration and on-site deployment. ProfMedia today benefits from an improved return-on-investment, higher efficiencies and increased broadcast reliability.

"We are extremely pleased with what we have achieved using SGT's Veda suite to master our tapeless workflow," said Alexander Grechishnikov, technical director of ProfMedia. "Combining the workflow for eleven channels from four broadcasters, and this for multiple time zones, is an ambitious project. A merged workflow of this size simply would not have been possible with a traditional tape-based operation."

The Veda software suite for workflow automation is the most advanced and capable solution available on the market, and provides components to build a modular and powerful end-to-end solution. The main features of the ProfMedia system are: entirely IP-based device control of video servers, routers and channel branding system; three different traffic sources interfaced over Veda's BXF-compatible interface; last-minute EDLs for promotion blocks and commercial breaks, which can be inserted by each broadcaster remotely; file-based quality check integrated in the automated workflow; and file-based workflow based on MXF-wrapped DV25 that can be played on standard workstation running the Veda MXF player.

"ProfMedia is a major innovative player in the Russian broadcast industry with respectable views on business efficiency," said François Chiche, vice president sales and marketing of SGT. "We are excited to see the results of our joints efforts, and to prove that the modular Veda end-to-end solution can turn sophisticated demands into a straightforward and lean system, ready for future expansion."

Tapani Karjalainen, president of Qualitron, said: "ProfMedia today benefits from best-of-breed technologies and a state-of-the-art workflow solution that will help them be more efficient and thus more competitive. In a joint effort with SGT, we succeeded to manage the complexity of the project in order to provide ProfMedia with the most advanced entirely tapeless workflow."
