Snell routing runs BBC centre

Thursday, 26 November 2009
As part of the BBC's ambitious 'W1 project', Snell's Sirius 800 routers will provide core video routing for the redeveloped London Broadcasting House.

Snell has announced that its Sirius 800 Series large-scale multiformat routers will provide core video routing for the BBC's project to consolidate radio, news, and world service into a single facility in the heart of London.

The Sirius 800 Series routers form part of the second phase of the W1 project, which includes adding a new extension to Broadcasting House. Snell routing systems allow engineers to mix and match signals - 1.5Gbps and 3Gbps HD, SD, and ASI on fibre and cable interfaces, as well as AES and MADI audio - within the same frame, and to add cards as routing demands grow. Expandable to 1152 x 1152, the Sirius 800 Series router also features redundant video and audio crosspoints, multiple multiviewer outputs, status indicators and reporting.

A touchscreen interface provides access to comprehensive status and diagnostics information, which can be linked to Snell's MCM system, enabling remote access, or through the MCM rules engine for automatic re-routing of signals. There is also support for a variety of high-performance processing input and output modules.
