Playout Server new from IDX

Friday, 27 November 2009
IDX offers advanced SSD technology and makes a formal entry into the post production market with the debut of PlayMagic.

IDX has unveiled its new MFP-100 multiformat playout server, known as PlayMagic. The manufacturer claims the MFP-100 surpasses other standalone servers offering traditional HDD storage and access, with its dedicated SSD (Solid State Drive) configuration. IDX says this offers outstanding HD/SDI quality, speed and reliability, with multiple GB per second throughput, faster access times than HDD, no moving parts, low power consumption, simultaneous record/playback and a stable output of digitally stored video/audio.

Contained in a slim 1RU chassis design, the MFP-100 ingests and delivers HD-SDI/SD-SDI using a multi-layer chip equipped with a long-life access engine to optimise faster I/O results than a single layer chip. It also uses an automatic cache control protocol to ensure confident data security.

PlayMagic is designed for a number of production and broadcast workflows as a fast access cache server, and for applications including nonlinear editing, mobile live production, news and sports and high-end displays. Shipping starts throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa from January 2010.
