ITV has reportedly won the rights to broadcast 16 games in cricket’s Indian Premier League after securing a deal with sports streamer DAZN.
The Daily Mail reports DAZN will broadcast the other 58 – including the play-offs and the final.
The deal is understood to last for the next five seasons, with the first round of games due to begin at the end of March. DAZN and ITV have won the rights from current broadcaster Sky.
The report suggests the streaming company has funded the majority of the bid to secure the rights and then decided to sub-licence some games to ITV in order to draw a larger audience.
ITV previously held the rights for the IPL between 2010 and 2014, and is expected to show this year’s competition on ITV4.
