NTT and NTT DATA have announced a package of AI-powered solutions to enhance the viewing experience at this year’s Indy 500.
The NTT Smart Solutions Platform will capture and analyse over 8 billion data points from more than 140 sensors on each car at the 2024 Indianapolis 500.
Levering AI and predictive analytics, NTT and its subsidiary, NTT DATA, will provide near real-time insights including race strategies, predictions and head-to-head overtaking to fans both at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) and watching remotely. IMS Productions
Fans watching on TV, streaming and on the web will be able to see the action from 15 in-car cameras, with NTT DATA AI-driven solutions providing racing insights.
“NTT DATA has pushed the boundaries of how technology can impact motorsports, helping us tap into vast amounts of data in advanced and productive ways,” said Roger Penske, chairman of Penske Corporation, which owns INDYCAR and IMS.
Eric Clark, CEO, NTT DATA, North America, added, “We work with the world’s leading enterprises in complex sectors, yet few organisations produce as much real-time data and analytics as NTT INDYCAR SERIES racing teams and venues. Partnering with INDYCAR helps us explore and pressure test our offerings in intense real-time settings. We use those learnings to help our clients innovate and transform their operations, improve sustainability, leverage AI and enhance customer experiences.”
This year, a limited demonstration will leverage Embodied Knowledge technology from NTT R&D that powers simulators which lets fans experience the track as driven at high speed by a professional driver via extended reality (XR).
