Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced it is beta testing X-Ray Recaps.
Driven by generative AI, X-Ray Recaps provides personalised summaries of full TV seasons, single episodes and individual sections of programmes, allowing users to catch up with content they have missed.
The solution aims to remove the need to rewind through missed content, eliminating the potential of accidental spoilers and enhancing the viewing experience. Building on Prime Video’s existing X-Ray features which provide viewers with additional content relevant to what is being watched, X-Ray Recaps deliver short textual snippets of key points and are accessible at any point in the viewing experience.
Using a mix of Amazon Bedrock AI models and custom AI models trained on Amazon Sagemaker, the solution analyses video segments, dialogue and subtitles to create a detailed description of missed content. Guardrails aim to ensure the summaries are kept spoiler-free.
Adam Gray, vice president of product at Prime Video, commented, “Prime Video product and technology teams work relentlessly behind the scenes to enhance customers’ viewing experience, and with the creation of X-Ray Recaps, we’re directly addressing a common problem customers face when streaming content: forgetting where they left off. With this context-aware functionality, Prime Video will deliver summaries of memorable moments and important plot points so our customers can quickly jump back into what they were watching or rediscover why they fell in love with a series in the first place.”
X-Ray Recaps is currently in beta testing stage and available to Fire TV customers in the US. Support for additional devices is coming by the end of the year, said the company.
