MediaTech 360: The future of sports broadcasting

OTT broadcasters and the chase for sports rights will be discussed at this year's event

This year’s MediaTech 360 will take an in-depth look at the business of sport and what the future holds.

The afternoon of day one will begin by asking if 360 video is the next great media customer experience. Olie Baumann, senior technical specialist, video processing at Ericsson Media Solutions, will offer his thoughts on industry challenges associated with 360 video as well as monetisation opportunities.

Gordon Castle, senior vice president – technology, Eurosport, joins Casper Choffat, manager R&D and lead system architect, NEP Media Solutions, to discuss the business of sport and how technology can bring broadcasters closer to the fans. They will also explore the tech infrastructure needed to bring the best sporting action to the screen.

Day one concludes with a panel discussion about one of the hottest topics in the industry at the moment: OTT broadcasters and sports rights.

The panel, which again includes Choffat, alongside Jeff Nathenson, managing director, the Whistle Sports Network, Rowan de Pomerai, professional services director – EMEA, Ooyala, and Shawn Moffatt, managing partner, Go To Team, will ask: what additional network infrastructure needs to be considered?

They will also look at investing in esports and discuss how broadcasters can strike a balance with publishers, league/event organisers to create a profitable legal and commercial structure.
