Palo Alto Networks has released a report revealing the threat level faced by companies.
In its Unit 42 Attack Surface Threat Report, the cybersecurity provider highlighted the vulnerability of the sector, which it places at a “significantly higher” risk than the next highest industry, telecommunications.
Key findings from the analysis demonstrated that the industry continues to widen its attack surface, with businesses inadvertently creating 7,000 new gaps in defences every month.
The report also said attack surface changes inevitably lead to exposures, which include vulnerabilities in application-layer protocols like SNMP, NetBIOS, PPTP, and internet-accessible administrative login pages of routers, firewalls, VPNs, and other core networking and security appliances.
