SMPTE awards Marina Kalkanis Presidential Proclamation

The award was established in 1982 and recognises individuals of "established and outstanding status and reputation in the motion picture and television industries worldwide"

SMPTE is honouring M2A Media co-founder Marina Kalkanis with its 2024 Presidential Proclamation in recognition of her work in establishing sustainable media in the cloud architecture and live media in the cloud procedures and distribution solutions.

The award was established in 1982 and recognises individuals of “established and outstanding status and reputation in the motion picture and television industries worldwide.”

Kalkanis launched M2A Media in 2016 with co-founder and current CTO Marcus Box. The company’s clients include ITV, Channel 4, DAZN and ATP Media.

Prior to M2A, she was the BBC’s director of platform and common services and was instrumental in the building of iPlayer. Kalkanis also led the team that migrated the BBC’s tape-based linear playout workflow to file-based IP delivery, running in the AWS cloud. She also held the position of SMPTE governor, UK Region for the 2021-2022 term.

Speaking about her award, Kolkanis said: “It is a great honour to have been awarded the 2024 Presidential Proclamation by SMPTE. This recognition reflects not only my efforts but also the hard work and dedication of the entire M2A Media team. I am grateful to SMPTE for this recognition and acknowledgement. It is my privilege to continue to support M2A’s mission of transforming live video workflows for the industry.”
