Labour wants to add the Cricket World Cup to the ‘crown jewels’

Part of the party's election manifesto

Labour has pledged to add the ICC Cricket World Cup to the so-called sports ‘crown jewels’ list if it’s elected in next month’s general election.

Within its manifesto, Labour pledged to make the competition available on free-to-air television.

“Sport enriches our lives, binds communities together and helps us all to stay healthy. We will add the ICC Cricket World Cup to the list of crown jewel sporting events that are broadcast free-to-air,” it said.

Earlier this summer current rights holder Sky agreed a deal with Channel 4 to make the final of the competition available to FTA viewers.
