Match of the Day has extended its Premier League highlights deal for a further three years.
The £211.5 million deal – up from £204 million – includes Match of the Day 2, Football Focus and The Premier League Show, and will see the BBC maintain the rights until at least the 2021-22 season.
First broadcast in 1964, Match of the Day has been at the helm of free-to-air highlights packages since the 2004-2005 season, when it returned from a three-year hiatus after temporarily losing out to The Premiership on ITV.
Charlotte Moore, director of BBC content, said: “To secure the Premier League highlights for another three years is fantastic news for football fans all over the UK and ensures the BBC remains the free-to-air home with the iconic Match of the Day at the heart of all the action.”
Premier League executive chairman Richard Scudamore added: “We are extremely pleased that our partnership with BBC Sport will continue through to 2022.”
“They do an excellent job of making the Premier League available to millions of fans across the UK with a range of high quality programming and content.”
