Movable LED cubes, 2,168 lighting fixtures, 204 tonnes of technical gear: Eurovision 2024 stage unveiled

The stage designers have worked to create a 360-experience for both the arena and TV audiences, with movable LED cubes, LED floors, light, video and stage technology

SVT, host broadcaster of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, has unveiled the stage for this year’s event.

The semi-finals and grand final will be broadcast live on public service broadcasters across Europe, as well as SBS in Australia and Peacock in the United States.

Sweden is hosting the show following Loreen’s win in Liverpool last year, with Mälmo Arena set as the venue.

Some 37 artists will take to the stage across Eurovision week, with acts arriving for rehearsals from tomorrow morning (Saturday 27 April).

The stage designers have worked to create a 360-experience for both the arena and TV audiences, with movable LED cubes, LED floors, light, video and stage technology.

It includes 2,168 lighting fixtures, with every single one having an LED or laser source, which required four weeks of pre-programming, said SVT.

The stage also features around 1,000 square metres of LED screens in and over the set, with the floor LED measuring 186 square metres, and the backdrop LED screen 340 square metres.

The ceiling holds 5 LED cubes, as well as 204 tonnes of technical gear, positioned and moved via a 196 variable speed hoist.

Light and screen content designer Fredrik Stormby said: “We believe that together we have created what is an unexpected and updated concept for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 and are looking forward to showing it off for real! We’ve developed a strong concept together, and I’m really looking forward to getting my teeth into the show and doing the broadcasts!”

The Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Malmö, Sweden on Tuesday 7 May (first semi-final), Thursday 9 May (second semi-final) and Saturday 11 May (grand final) 2024.
