SMPTE Education opens IP networking boot camp

The courses will feature the latest SMPTE ST 2110 advancements, updates, and standards

SMPTE has announced it is introducing a pilot IP networking boot camp with two new courses and an upgrade of its existing course.

Participants who compete all three courses and pass a final exam will become certified in IP networking with a focus on the SMPTE ST2110 standard,  said the organisation. Each three week course will feature three live instructor sessions during weeks one and two, with a study period including instructor support and interactive sessions in the third week.

The first of the new courses, Introduction to IP Networking, covers the basics needed for a foundation in IP networking. Course two, Designing an IP Network, provides an overview of the elements, systems and devices in an IP environment and covers the entire IP supply chain from a business and technical perspective. The third course is an updated version of Understanding ST 2110, explaining how the standard can be used in creating media production or delivery systems within IP networks.

Study groups and discussion forums will run throughout the boot camp with practice exams and sample questions included after each individual course. The last week will include interactive sessions with industry experts, adding a practical element with real-world cases and problems to be solved. Following these sessions, participants will have a week to complete their final exam.

A comprehensive syllabus is available on request with registration open now at smpte.org/virtual-course/ipbootcamp.
