Mediaset installs 30 new cameras in a single month

The broadcaster opted for Grass Valley's LDX 135 camera system, enabling 4K native workflows that comply with the SMPTE ST 2110 standard

Grass Valley has announced a framework agreement with Mediaset.

The Italian broadcaster is modernising its production centres in Milan and Rome with 4K native cameras compliant with SMPTE ST 2110 and has selected the Grass Valley LDX 135 camera system.

Equipped with Creative Grading camera shading control panel and tablet application, Grass Valley’s LDX 135 includes NativeIP, enabling ST 2110 to stream output directly from the camera, said the company. LDX 135’s three new Xenios imagers provide wider dynamic range in HDR mode, improved signal-to-noise ratio, greater depth of field and offers optional JPEG XS high-quality, low-latency video compression, said Grass Valley.

Under the framework agreement, 30 cameras have already been installed in a single month, with work carried out by Mediaset engineers in partnership with Video Progetti. Domo Broadcast Systems is providing a wireless solution to be used with the LDX 135 RF.

Commenting on the process, Marco Di Concetto, director broadcasting production systems at Mediaset Group, said, “One of the biggest challenges we faced was installing so many cameras in such a short space of time, but Grass Valley ensured an incredibly fast turnaround in delivery from its factory in Breda to make it possible. We wanted to replace our existing camera fleet with a high-quality camera natively equipped for modern workflows such as IP, UHD, HDR, virtual production and XR, and remote production. The LDX 135 fulfills all of these requirements and more, it represents a significant upgrade.”
