Amazon introduces adverts to Prime Video

The adverts will be introduced in the UK, Germany, United States and Canada in early 2024

Amazon has announced it is adding commercial breaks to Prime Video.

The company said the move will enable it to invest further into content.

The adverts will be introduced in the UK, Germany, United States and Canada in early 2024, followed by France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Australia later in the year.

Subscribers can opt out of the adverts, but they have to pay to do so. Details of the UK/European fee have not been revealed, but for US viewers the non-advertising tier will cost an extra $2.99 per month.

Amazon said it intends to run fewer ads on Amazon Prime Video than traditional broadcasters or broadband rivals.
