England’s last minute win scores biggest audience of the year

The figure eclipses the 18.4 million viewers who also tuned into ITV for England's game against Slovakia

England’s dramatic win over the Netherlands in last night’s UEFA Euro 2024 semi-final was watched by a peak audience of 20.3 million viewers.

The figure eclipses the 18.4 million viewers who also tuned into ITV for England’s game against Slovakia.

According to ITV, across ITV and ITVX, an average audience of 19.6 million viewers watched the match between 8pm and 9:55pm, with 12.7 million viewers watching the overall coverage between 6.30pm and 10.45pm, a 64 per cent share of viewing.

ITVX saw its biggest ever audience for a live stream, with 16.8 million streams of ITV’s coverage.

With England reaching the final once again, it’s thought up to 30 million viewers could tune in to the game against Spain on Sunday. However, that game will be broadcast on both the BBC and ITV.

The final of Euro 2020, which saw England lose to Italy, was the most-watched TV event in the UK since the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales.

Ratings peaked at 30.9 million viewers as the match reached the penalty shoot-out.
