Accedo teams up with HBS and Qualcomm for XR Sports Alliance

The alliance aims to boost innovation in XR technology, accelerating industry growth

Accedo has announced a partnership with Qualcomm and HBS to launch a new alliance that aims to accelerate the commercialisation of extended reality (XR) sports services.

Building a bridge between the XR and sports industries, the collaboration will drive development of XR sports services, enabling users to deploy end-to-end XR solutions and services efficiently and at scale, said Accedo.

It will combine Accedo’s experience in video distribution and monetisation, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon-powered XR solutions and HBS’ established sports ecosystem. The framework will encompass immersive video production and distribution, system architecture definition, user testing and both technology and business advisory elements.

Accedo also said the programme will be open to third parties, aiming to drive development of purpose-built XR hardware for the sports and video entertainment use case as well as supporting and accelerating industry growth.

“We believe XR will become an important content distribution and user engagement platform and we want to connect industry stakeholders to collaborate and innovate,” said Michael Lantz, CEO at Accedo. “The Alliance network will enable industries to uncover industry demand in different geographical regions and shine light on the pipeline of upcoming XR solutions, allowing sports rights owners and holders to make data-driven decisions.”

Sylvain Lebreton, head of digital services, HBS, added: “This program aims to be a game-changer for the sports industry, helping to drive innovation. We are engaging with industry leaders across every part of the XR and sports broadcast ecosystem, which we are sure will ultimately accelerate development and deployment of commercial XR sports services.”
