Edgio content delivery network officially shuts down

Closure follows Edgio's decision to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in September 2024

Edgio’s content delivery network (CDN) has officially gone offline following the company’s decision to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last September.

In November, Akamai revealed it had acquired customer contracts from Edgio’s security and content delivery business.

However, this did not include the company’s technology, personnel, or “assets related to the Edgio network” resulting in the end of service on January 15th.

Edgio launched in 2022 following the acquisition of Edgecast by Limelight Networks.

The company’s customers included BT, which integrated Edgio’s CDN into its Multicast-Assisted Unicast Delivery (MAUD) technology solution.
