French fibre optic network subject of vandalism

According to police, Paris and the Olympic Games do not appear to have been hit in the attack

French telco companies SFR, Free and Bouygues Telecom have had their fibre optic cables in the south of France cut and installations near Luxembourg and Paris sabotaged.

According to police, Paris and the Olympic Games do not appear to have been hit in the attack.

Writing on Twitter aka X, French Secretary of State for Digital Affairs Marina Ferrari confirmed the attackers had taken place, adding: “I condemn these cowardly and irresponsible acts in the strongest possible terms.”

It is not yet known how many customers have been impacted by the attack, however it has been reported that foreign operators using the SFR network have been affected.

The incident occurred three days after France’s train network was hit by what’s been described as a coordinated series of attacks ahead of the Opening Ceremony of Paris 2024.
