Plazamedia will provide playout services for MagentaTV during Euro 2024 after extending its contract with Deutsche Telekom for another four years.
Plazamedia already oversses up to 1,400 live matches of various sports for linear TV every year, including live broadcasting of individual matches and conferences, as well as the recording and management of all linear non-live elements such as replays, highlights and slo-mo playouts.
In addition, the sports TV producer will provide operational staff and multifunctional IP production units to handle live productions with commentary, graphics and content feeds, said the company. PLAZAMEDIA will also provide a comprehensive signal management service, with production content received centrally by satellite, fibre or streaming signals via the Ismaning site, with the same applying to the delivery of broadcast signals to the Deutsche Telekom headend and third-party utilisers.
PLAZAMEDIA will take over internal production for the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga, German Ice Hockey League and German Ice Hockey Federation national men’s team games as well as EuroLeague and EuroCup basketball in the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 seasons.
For the Euros, the company is providing the playout for Deutsche Telekom’s three MagentaTV channels: Fußball.TV 1-3 and associated services from a single source, including the planning and technical concept, production technology and staff, said the company.
Production of the tournament’s 51 matches, along with reactions, conferences and tactics feeds, will take place in UHD HDR and HD SDR formats. The company will also produce, record and archive content for rights holders.
Arnim Butzen, head of TV at Deutsche Telekom said, ”We are delighted to continue our long-standing collaboration with PLAZAMEDIA. In doing so, we are creating continuity and are relying on proven quality. The requirements for sports broadcasts in our extensive MagentaSport portfolio and for major soccer events such as the upcoming UEFA Euro 2024 on MagentaTV have increased significantly in recent years. As the leading digital company in Europe, we want to continue to lead the way as a driver of innovation in an increasingly digitalised environment. Our brands should stand for excellent and innovative sports coverage. We are convinced that with PLAZAMEDIA we have the right partner at our side.”
