ARRI has announced the launch of a base model ALEXA 35 camera system.
Complementing the existing model, which will now be known as ALEXA 35 Premium, the lower-priced ALEXA 35 Base is distinguished by a blue jog wheel but retains the same hardware, with a feature set that can be upgraded via temporary or permanent licences.

Standard features include ProRes recording up to 60 fps in 4K 16:9 and other formats, ARRI Look File (CDL and 3D LUT) support, Enhanced Sensitivity modes up to EI 6400, and three independent 10-bit monitoring outputs in SDR and HDR colour spaces along with the same Super 35 sensor, 17 stops of dynamic range and REVEAL Color Science as the current model.
Designed to meet the requirements of users who require the facility to unlock specialist features for short term projects, each of the licences is available for seven days, 30 days, a year or as a permanent addition, said the company. All five licences can also be purchased as a bundle.
The five licences are:
- 120 fps for higher frame rates
- ARRIRAW for uncompressed image quality
- Open Gate/Anamorphic for the full 4.6K sensor area and anamorphic modes
- Pre-record for up to 20 seconds of buffered pre-recording before the record button is pressed
- Look for in-camera ARRI Textures, the ARRI Look Library, and Custom Color Management.
With all five installed, the Base model has all the features of the Premium, said ARRI. Licence purchases are no longer restricted to the camera’s owner.
Codex has announced its new Compact Drive Express 1TB in conjunction with the model launch, offering the same write speeds and fps range as its Compact Drive 1TB at a lower price point.
