Going the extra Milo: MRMC unveils new rig

The Super Milo can achieve speeds of up to 3 m/s on track and 5 m/s with combined camera movement

MRMC has announced the launch of its Super Milo motion control rig.

Building on the legacy of the Academy award-winning Milo rig, the Super Milo has brushless motors and can achieve speeds of up to 3 m/s on track and 5 m/s with combined camera movement, up to 100 per cent faster than the original Milo with up to 400 per cent faster acceleration, said the company. Super Milo can handle a camera payload of 35kg.

The rig’s geometry enables movements from below ground level to a height of 6.1 metres and easy-to-fit extensions enable flexible shooting configurations, added MRMC.

Track setup is expedited by electronic lifting actuators, allowing the Super Milo to operate as a high-precision, high-speed rig suitable for macro, tabletop, CGI work and high-speed live action shooting. Setup takes less than an hour and an electric jacking system speeds up rail assembly, said the company.

Assaff Rawner, CEO at MRMC, said, “The success of the Milo paved the way for other motion control systems, but it remains a benchmark in the industry due to its unparalleled stability, reliability, and quality of results.

“It was once seemingly impossible to conceive that there could be an improved version of this rig. Yet it is so. The Super Milo will continue to provide an example of MRMC’s commitment to excellence in cinematography and demonstrates our latest advancements in macro and high-speed robotic camera technology.”
