A new film and TV studio is to be built as part of the £6 billion Meridian Water development in Edmonton, North London.
The new complex, named Meridian Water Studios, will be the biggest studio complex inside London’s North Circular according to the local authority. It is expected to open by the spring.
It is being built by Troubadour Theatres and will be located on a 155,073 ft2 plot, offering space for workshops, offices, parking and load ins.
The complex will include three sound stages as well as a production hub. Troubadour also intends to build a skills academy on site so local residents can be trained on how to work in the film and television industry.
Enfield Council leader Nesil Caliskan said: “This agreement will plug the local economy of Edmonton and Enfield into the dynamic international film and media sector and means Enfield is poised to become one of the leading London boroughs for high-end television and film production.
Meridian Water Studios is the latest in a string of new studio complexes due to open in and around London in the coming months. Garden Studios in Park Royal is also due to open this spring, while Dagenham Studios finally secured funding at the end of 2020. Work is already underway on Sky’s new studio complex in Elstree, plus the University of Reading’s £150 million complex Shinfield Studios is expected to open in 2022.
