Bitcentral’s MediaPipe content distribution system is being tapped by NBC News Channel to make on-site coverage of the 2006 Winter Olympics in Torino available to more than 200 NBC domestic affiliate stations and international clients.
BitCentral’s MediaPipe integrates broadcast, satellite-over-IP, and MPEG file technologies to lower operating costs and increase the productivity of news producers through a desktop application. The solution exists as a software platform that facilitates the management and distribution of video via satellite in commonly accepted digital file formats like MPEG-1 and MPEG-2. It streamlines workflow by eliminating re-feeds, automates the satellite submittal process, eliminates videotape storage, and provides better access to archived material.
“The ability to connect directly to our domestic server system from thousands of miles away is a big benefit to our clients. It’s as if our producers are working from our newsroom back in the US,” stated Bob Horner, President of NBC NewsChannel.
