Plan for West Midlands studio complex revealed

The facility will include four sound stages, workshops, production offices, make-up and dressing rooms, and support services

AIB LIVE has unveiled details of its proposed new film and TV studio in Telford in the West Midlands.

The independent film production company has engaged BHB Architects to oversee the design of its planned conversion of a 60,000 square foot warehouse site in Hortonwood, Shropshire.

Named First Central Studios, plans for the facility include four sound stages, workshops, production offices, make-up and dressing rooms, and support services. Work is scheduled to commence later this year, with the complex set to open in spring 2025, said the company.

A spokesperson for AIB LIVE said: “The British film and TV industry stands as one of this country’s great ongoing success stories and we are committed to build the creative sector in the West Midlands with First Central Studios and promote the stunning locations that are readily available in this region many of which have never been shown on the big screen.”

The company plans to support the creation of a film academy in collaboration with institutions such as Telford College, focusing on accessibility and diversity. In addition to hiring the studios out, AIB LIVE will also create and shoot its own productions at the site, and is aiming to begin work on Italian director Frankie Caradonna’s The Ghost Train early next year.
