Approval for the contract, which will be funded from a £19.1 million award made under the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund in March last year, was announced at a meeting of Stirling Council’s Finance, Economy and Corporate Support Committee.

The majority of the funds will be invested into the existing 160,000 square-foot Building 135, which is likely to become the main hub for the project. In addition to repairs, a section of the roof will be raised to provide greater flexibility of operations. Thermal installation will also be installed, along with a new electricity substation, fire alarm and security system and improved ventilation. The building will be equipped with high-speed fibre networks.

Commenting on the approval, leader of Stirling Council, Cllr Margaret Brisley, said, “The agreement for the procurement contract to refurbish these buildings will accelerate the transformation of Forthside into a prime economic hub, including the Stirling Studios project. It is an important step in the project’s timeline, with the ultimate aim of turning the site into a dynamic and vibrant location for film and television production, as well as other industries, attracting investment and promoting job creation.”

Stirling Studios aims to deliver one of the biggest film studio campuses in Scotland, bringing an estimated 4,000 jobs over 25 years in key film and production roles, as well as supply services. It is anticipated refurbishment works will commence in February 2025.
