UK Post announced this week the launch of The Conch Sound Awards, reflecting the contribution made by UK facilities, sound editors and dubbing mixers to the art of audio post production in film and TV and commercials, writes Fergal Ringrose.
The awards ceremony will be held on September 21 2006 at the Radisson Edwardian Mayfair hotel in its newly refurbished cinema. The Conch Awards are being organised and promoted by the industry trade body UK Post. For the first time the British audio industry is coming together to recognise and celebrate its achievements in film and television, with the full support and backing of world-class audio facilities:
The audio industry will be invited to nominate projects using a form on the following website www.ukpost.org.uk/conch. Companies will be able to nominate themselves or their colleagues/peers and after a shortlist has been created facilities will be asked to submit material for judging. The deadline for nominations is June 29 2006.
The categories are as follows: UK Post Fellowship Award; Most Promising Newcomer, by the UK Post Audio Committee and sponsored by AMS Neve; Sound Editor/Designer of The Year; UK Film Soundtrack – over £10million – sponsored by UK Film Council; UK Film Soundtrack – under £10million; Best Audio on TV Drama – one off; Best Audio on TV Drama – series; Best Audio on TV/Film Documentary; Best Audio on TV Entertainment; Commercial of the year; Best UK ADR/Foley stage; Best UK supervising sound editor; Best UK Re-recording mixer – sponsored by Euphonix; Best UK Sound Facility – sponsored by Scrub and Digidesign; Unsung Hero – this award will reward a UK based industry product or person that fails to get recognised.
