Liverpool City Council has announced a pilot scheme to enable broadcasters and film crews to plug into power pillars while filming on location in the city.
The council said the scheme aims to create a “clean, creative” production zone in the city centre.
Building on work already trialled on a smaller scale in London, the city is collaborating with Ecotricity X Grid Faeries to explore the installation of power pillars, which would enable film crews and broadcasters to plug directly into the grid and remove the need for diesel generators on site.
Speaking about the pilot project, Cllr Harry Doyle, Liverpool City Council cabinet member for Health, Wellbeing and Culture, said: “Initiatives such as this show the imagination and ingenuity that our creative sectors will be able to harness.
“These solutions will help the TV and film industries lower their carbon emissions without impacting on the quality or quantity of their fantastic work. These are incredibly important sectors for the City’s economy, so it’s vital we help their transition towards a net zero future.”
