UK production group Goldfinch has announced plans to launch Bird Box, a streaming service targeted at specific fan groups.
At launch the platform will carry lifestyle, sci-fi, horror and LGBTQ-themed movies, short films and music videos, with TV content to follow.
According to Variety, Bird Box is a transactional service with some ad-supported elements. Goldfinch has taken on an unspecified existing digital platform, which puts billing and video technology in place in more than 160 territories.

Goldfinch COO Phil McKenzie described a gap in the market for niche content “where there are highly engaged and talkative communities online.”
The market is currently dominated by the likes of Netflix and Amazon, with Disney+ also launching this year. “The biggest challenge is to be the third or fourth choice in the list behind those big players,” McKenzie said.
