BBC iPlayer saw its best-ever festive fortnight viewing figures with 203 million requests to stream or download programmes.
The return of Gavin & Stacey was the most-requested episode between 20th December and 2nd January, with 4,553,000 requests, double that of its nearest rival, the Christmas Day episode of EastEnders.
New Year’s Day was BBC iPlayer’s best-ever day with 17.9 million requests, over a third higher than the same day in 2019, thanks to the debuts of both Dracula and Doctor Who.
In terms of programme titles, EastEnders topped the chart with 15.5 million requests, followed by Gavin & Stacey at 11,366,000.
Dan McGolpin, controller of iPlayer and Programming at the BBC, said: “It was a cracking Christmas for BBC iPlayer with more people than ever enjoying a huge range of great shows. 2019 was iPlayer’s best-ever year and 2020 got off to the perfect start with the New Year’s Day Doctor Who and Dracula both helping to deliver the highest number of requests in a single day. Millions of people are enjoying iPlayer’s expanded box-set offer and new series being made available for longer.”
