CBS debuts AR/VR immersive race to the White House

Augmented and virtual reality technologies will provide viewers with an "unprecedented" immersive election experience, said CBS

CBS has revealed plans to deliver AR/VR coverage of the US Presidential Election

Aiming to provide viewers with “deeper understanding and context,” the broadcaster’s engineers, data scientists, producers, artists and journalists have created an immersive election results production, which will be presented live from its technology-driven studios across the country as the day unfolds.

Incoming results will be shown across a national and local interactive VR map driven by CBS anchors in their respective markets. Viewers will be transported to battleground states, with real-time results and data throughout the race to the White House. Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) equipped studios in New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Bay Area and Colorado will drive a multi-dimensional interactive election centre, enabling live coverage of election day events, ranging from the smallest local city halls to the state capitols and the White House. On-the-ground analysis will be provided across the states.

The AR/VR studio results will be streamed alongside CBS’ regular election programming, which will remain available to viewers.
